What is a Fixed Multi-station Rotary Indexer

 

A mechanical device used to precisely control several stations to execute operations in turn is the fixed multi-station rotary indexer. Its fundamental construction consists in an indexing mechanism, many fixed stations, and a rotary indexing plate. The indexing mechanism controls each station to precisely stop at a specified angle, thereby completing duties such processing, assembly, or inspection. The operating concept is to spin the indexing plate through the drive system. DS Shaft Model

 

Usually employed in automation and precision machining, DS shaft rotary indexers are a type of indexing mechanism driven by shaft. Its construction consists in drive shaft, indexing plate, positioning mechanism and support system. The positioning mechanism guarantees that every station stays in the exact position, which is appropriate for intermittent operation of several stations. The operating concept is to supply power through the drive shaft to make the indexing plate rotate accurately depending on the predetermined angle. Often employed in machining, assembly lines, and test equipment, the system boasts great accuracy, minimum backlash and stability.

DF Flange Shaft

Choosing the right indexer depends on your specific multi-station setup. Here is how our series differ in application.

DS Series (Shaft Model)

This series is suitable for indirect drive. If your multi-station system uses chain drives, conveyor belts, or gear transmissions to link multiple stations, the DS series with its shaft output is the most versatile choice.

DF Series (Flange Model)

This series Designed for direct mounting of turntables. The flange output offers superior rigidity, making it best for 4 to 8-station dials that carry heavy fixtures or undergo high-pressure processing.

FAQ

 

Q: Can the angles of the stations on a fixed multi-station indexer be changed later?

A: No. During manufacture, the fixed station angles are specified (for example, 60°/45°). To make changes, you have to go back to the factory for re-cam processing. We suggest checking the angles ahead of time based on the needs of the process.

Q: How many stations can be altered at the most?

A: The standard allows for 3 to 24 stations. For more than 24 stations, the load capacity must be checked (the more stations there are, the less load capacity there is per station, which our technical staff needs to figure out).

Q: What makes it different from a regular rotary table?

A: The fixed multi-station indexer features a built-in cam drive system that may be directly connected to a servo motor for intermittent rotation. This means that there is no need for a separate drive unit. Because they need a separate drive unit and have low precision (error ≥ 0.1mm), regular rotary tables are only good for low-precision tasks.

Q: What safety measures should be performed during maintenance? Every 1000 hours, use high-temperature grease (NLGI Grade 2) on the places where the cam and roller touch.

A: To keep things from adhering, clean the surface of the workstation once a week.
Do not go beyond the rated load (read the data sheet for more information). Overloading will make the cam wear out faster.
